Located at the northern end of the Waterfront Park, close to the steel bridge, the Japanese American Historical Plaza is a unique and beautiful sculpture garden. Dotted with cherry trees, the plaza serves as a memorial to the Japanese Americans who were detained in concentration camps during WWII.

The former home of Henry Louis Pittock, founder of Portland's daily newspaper, was completed in 1914 and represents a harmonious combination of 17th, 18th and 19th century French and British architectural styles. The Pittock Mansion houses a splendid collection of original antique furnishings and fine art, and is located more than half a mile above sea level, amid beautiful gardens that allow panoramic views of the Cascade mountain range.

This bricked plaza in the heart of downtown Portland was specifically designed as an urban centre open to all and is affectionately known as 'Portland's living room'. Square houses, an amphitheater, a travel bookstore, fountain, coffee shop, weather machine and visitor information centre are all squeezed into the Pioneer Courthouse Square, which doubles as exhibit space for works art.

Portland Landmarks and Monuments: Portland Building and Portlandia - Southwest Fifth Avenue (between Main and Madison streets), Portland, Oregon (OR), USA
The heavy set, pastel colored Portland Building has the distinction of being the first major postmodern architectural structure in the world and is fronted by the hammered copper Portlandia statue, a massive image of the Goddess of Commerce. At 39 feet tall, the Portlandia statue is second only in size to the Statue of Liberty and is one of Portland's most striking landmarks.
